Rehab That Takes HealthPartners in Minneapolis

Outpatient addiction and mental health treatment in-network with HealthPartners, for adults in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities, with your coverage confirmed before you start.

Northwoods Haven Recovery is in-network with HealthPartners, a Minnesota-based health plan that a great many people in the Twin Cities carry through work, through an individual plan, or through its Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare products. Behavioral health is part of the plan, and substance use disorder treatment sits inside that benefit, so the Intensive Outpatient Program and Relapse Prevention Program at our Hopkins offices are a realistic option when a comprehensive assessment shows outpatient care is what you need.

Have your HealthPartners card nearby when you call. We check your eligibility and benefits, walk you through what they mean in plain terms, and tell you what you would owe before you agree to a single session.

How HealthPartners works here

A Minnesota plan, a Minnesota program, and a clear path between them

HealthPartners is headquartered in Bloomington and covers people across the state through employer group plans, individual and family plans, and public program products for Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare members. Because it is a local plan, its members tend to already be in the Twin Cities, which makes an outpatient program in Hopkins a practical fit. Mental health and substance use treatment are built into the behavioral health benefit on every HealthPartners plan, though how much you pay toward that care depends on which plan you have.

HealthPartners, like every plan, ties coverage for a level of care to medical necessity, and the way medical necessity gets established is a comprehensive assessment. That is the chemical use assessment everyone at Northwoods Haven Recovery starts with, completed with a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. When it supports outpatient care, we submit the documentation HealthPartners asks for, request prior authorization if your plan calls for it, and tell you what came back. When it shows you need detox or residential treatment first, your plan can cover that elsewhere, and we help you find the right place before coming back to us.

HealthPartners through the state? Some HealthPartners members are enrolled through Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare rather than through an employer, and the card looks similar. Coverage rules can differ between the two. Read us what the card says and we will figure out which applies and what it means for outpatient treatment.

How it works

Three steps from your first call to coverage you can count on

You should never have to guess what treatment will cost. Verification is the first thing we do, before any schedule is set.

01

You call and we verify

Give us the details on your HealthPartners card. We confirm you are eligible, look at your behavioral health benefit, and find out whether your plan needs prior authorization for outpatient care. Then we tell you what we learned.

02

You complete the assessment

A comprehensive chemical use assessment with a licensed alcohol and drug counselor determines your diagnosis, the level of care that fits, and the medical necessity HealthPartners uses to approve treatment.

03

Treatment starts, with the plan on board

When outpatient care is recommended and authorized, programming starts right after intake. Our team handles the ongoing paperwork with HealthPartners so you do not have to.

Not sure what you can afford?

Tell us on the first call. Cost is the question we hear most, and we answer it straight.

Every HealthPartners plan divides costs a little differently between you and the plan. We read yours, explain it in ordinary language, and make sure nothing about the cost of treatment surprises you later.

Questions first? How admissions works

Why here

In-network with HealthPartners, and built for people who live here

A local plan and a local outpatient program should make treatment simpler. Here is how we keep it that way.

In-network, so your plan works as intended

Being in HealthPartners’ network means contracted rates and in-network cost sharing apply, which is the most affordable way to use the coverage you already pay for.

No surprises on cost

You hear what HealthPartners covers and what your share would be before your first group, not in a statement afterward.

One assessment does both jobs

The comprehensive assessment HealthPartners wants for authorization is the same one that determines your level of care. One appointment, not two.

Two outpatient levels of care

The Intensive Outpatient Program and the Relapse Prevention Program, both scheduled around work and family. Nobody stays overnight.

Mental health is not an add-on

Co-occurring depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, and ADHD are treated by the same counselors, inside the same programming your plan covers.

Honest when we are not the fit

If your assessment points to detox or residential care first, we say so plainly and help you find a HealthPartners provider who offers it. Come back when you are ready.

What insurance decides, and what it does not

HealthPartners approves the level of care. The recovery is yours.

Your plan authorizes treatment based on medical necessity and may check in on progress while you are enrolled. That is routine, and we take care of the paperwork. Three words will come up when we go over your plan. Your deductible is what you pay before HealthPartners begins paying. A copay is a set amount you pay for a visit. Coinsurance is the percentage of a cost you and the plan split. We tell you which of these applies to outpatient treatment on your plan and what it means in practice.

What HealthPartners does not do is decide how you recover, what you believe, or what a good life looks like for you. That is yours to define. And if there is a limit to be honest about, such as an authorization still pending, a benefit that resets with the plan year, or a product we are not contracted for, we tell you as soon as we know rather than letting it become a problem later.

Substance use

Substance use disorders we treat in Minnesota

Seven groups, one outpatient path. The substance shapes the withdrawal risk and the early weeks, not the level of care or the counselors you work with.

The most common reason people call us, and the one most often hidden behind a functioning life.

Prescription opioids, heroin, and the fentanyl that now contaminates most of the illicit supply. Detox often comes first. We do not provide it, but we help you find it.

Methamphetamine, cocaine, and prescription stimulants. Group work is where most of the traction comes from.

Benzodiazepines, sleep medications, and other prescriptions that started as treatment. Stopping abruptly can be dangerous, so a medical provider guides the taper.

Legal does not mean harmless. Cannabis use disorder is a real diagnosis.

LSD, ecstasy and MDMA, ketamine, and PCP. Usually part of a wider pattern, which is what the assessment sorts out.

Inhalants, nitrous oxide, and substances that show up faster than the research does.

Not on the list?

This list is not a filter. Call us and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit, and help you find who is if we are not.

Common questions

Questions about using HealthPartners for addiction treatment

HealthPartners plans vary by employer and by product, so the first call is where your real answer comes from. These are the questions we hear most often.

LegitScript Certified

Verified addiction treatment provider

Yes. We are in-network with HealthPartners. Give us the information on your card on the first call and we confirm your eligibility and benefits before anything is scheduled.

Yes. Substance use disorder treatment, including outpatient levels of care such as the Intensive Outpatient Program and the Relapse Prevention Program, is part of the HealthPartners behavioral health benefit when a comprehensive assessment shows it is medically necessary.

In-network means Northwoods Haven Recovery has a contract with HealthPartners, so the plan’s negotiated rates and your in-network cost sharing apply. Out-of-network care has no such contract, and your share is usually much higher or the care may not be covered at all.

It can be. HealthPartners serves both commercial members and public program members, and the rules and cost sharing differ. Tell us your card is a Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare product and we confirm how your coverage applies to outpatient treatment here.

Some plans do, and the comprehensive assessment is what supports the request. We find out whether your plan requires it during the first call, handle the paperwork, and tell you where things stand so you know your timeline.

Yes. Co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, and ADHD are treated inside our outpatient programming, and that programming is what the behavioral health benefit on your plan covers.

It can, through providers who offer those levels of care. Northwoods Haven Recovery is outpatient only. If your assessment shows you need detox or residential care first, we help you find an in-network provider and welcome you back when you are ready for outpatient treatment.

Call anyway. We are also in-network with Minnesota Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, and UnitedHealthcare, and if you have no coverage we tell you honestly what your options are, including whether a public program might be open to you, and help you find the right next step.
