Addiction Treatment Resources for Clients, Families, and Professionals
How admissions works, help for families, what referring professionals need, insurance answers, and the recovery library, all from one honest starting point.
Northwoods Haven Recovery is an outpatient addiction and mental health treatment program in Hopkins, Minnesota, serving adults across Minneapolis and the Twin Cities. These resources answer the questions people bring to the first call: how to get started, what to do when someone you love needs help, how professionals refer a client, what insurance covers, and where to read more. When you call, we answer. And if we cannot help, we find you who can.
Not sure where you fit?
Tell us what you are looking for and we will point you to the right resource, or just answer the question.
Start with the question you actually have
Most people who reach us are not sure what they need yet. Some are ready to start and want to know what admissions looks like. Some are calling about a spouse, a child, or a friend and want to know what they can do from where they stand. Some are counselors, probation officers, or discharge planners with a client to place. Each of those questions has its own resource, and all of them lead back to the same phone number.
Every path starts with a chemical use assessment, and every caller leaves with resources, whether or not they end up here. If you are in active withdrawal or need residential care, we do not provide that, and we say so and help you find it.
The recovery library holds the longer reading: what withdrawal looks like, how the therapies work, how Medicaid works in Minnesota, and how to talk to someone who is not ready. Guides, longer downloadable resources on specific topics, are on the way.

Substance use
Substance use disorders we treat in Minnesota
Addiction is a disease, never a moral failing, and you are more than your diagnosis. Northwoods Haven Recovery treats alcohol and drug use disorders in an outpatient setting, with the same person-centered approach no matter what brought you here. This isn’t a complete list. If what you’re struggling with isn’t here, call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right fit.
Mental health
New
Co-occurring mental health conditions we treat alongside addiction
Substance use and mental health rarely arrive separately. Northwoods Haven Recovery now treats co-occurring mental health conditions alongside chemical dependency programming, so you don’t have to choose which one to work on first. If your needs are mental-health-primary rather than co-occurring with a substance use diagnosis, a program built for that will serve you better, and we’ll help you find one.
Trauma and PTSD
Trauma-informed care that accounts for what happened to you while you treat substance use.
Depression
Support for low mood, hopelessness, and the drinking or use that often travels with them.
Anxiety
Skills for panic, worry, and the urge to self-medicate, taught alongside your program.
Bipolar disorder
Care that steadies mood episodes while chemical dependency programming continues.
ADHD
Structure and skills for adult ADHD when stimulants, alcohol, or cannabis have become the coping strategy.
Something else?
Tell us what is going on. If a mental health condition is tangled with substance use, we treat both together.

Common questions
Questions people ask before they call
If yours is not here, call and ask. Every caller leaves with resources.
Where do I start if I think I need treatment?
Call (952) 243-8700. We listen to what is going on, answer your questions, and schedule a chemical use assessment when you are ready. The assessment establishes your diagnosis and the level of care that fits, here or somewhere better suited to you.
What if I am calling about someone else?
You are in good company: about half of our calls come from a family member. You can ask questions without committing anyone to anything, and our families resource explains what you can do from where you stand.
I am a professional with a client to refer. What do you need?
A comprehensive assessment, plus treatment plan reviews, discharge summary, medication list, and insurance information if applicable, with a release signed by the client. The referral partners resource lists everything and explains how the review works.
Does insurance cover treatment here?
We are in-network with Minnesota Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, HealthPartners, UnitedHealthcare, and Medica. Give us your plan information on the first call and we will verify your benefits and tell you plainly what is covered.
Do you provide detox or inpatient treatment?
No. Every program at Northwoods Haven Recovery is outpatient. If you are in active withdrawal or need residential care, call anyway and we will help you find a provider, then welcome you back when you are ready.
What are the guides?
Longer, downloadable resources on specific topics, written for people at a particular point in the process. The first guides are in development; until then, the recovery library and these resource pages cover the same ground in shorter form.
